Consultant / Advisor

Education and professional background

Malcolm has been in the energy business for 35 years, mostly as an independent consultant and advisor in design and offshore construction.

He has over 20 years’ experience working in wind, tidal and wave developments and is now heavily involved in an advisory role with floating wind in the wider industry.

In his capacity as an industry technical authority on moorings/anchors, risers and floating systems he has worked on approximately 200 systems across a wide range of high-profile projects from the extreme conditions of North and South Atlantic, Newfoundland, through to deep waters in West Africa, Gulf of Mexico and Asia.

His first foray into floating wind was in 1998 and fixed wind in 2000, supporting the Blyth demonstrator. Since then, he has supported many of the floating wind projects deployed to date. This has given him extensive insight and capability in addressing the challenges in the offshore energy transition market.

Malcolm has also performed a wide range of expert witness, insurance, incident investigations, root cause failure and due diligence work on behalf of clients, including academic research and forensic investigation.
