Education and professional background
Karl is a Chartered Naval Architect and Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), with over 35 years of experience in the offshore oil & gas and renewable energy sectors. He holds a PhD in Naval Architecture from University College London and an MSc in Offshore Structures from Cranfield Institute of Technology.
His expertise spans hull structure, mooring systems, hydrodynamics, wave loading, and metocean conditions. With a career that includes senior roles at Lloyd’s Register, Kent (formerly Atkins), Crondall Energy, DNV, and others, Karl offers a rare blend of technical depth and real-world insight across classification, consultancy, and engineering delivery.
