In a recent project, the recovery of both cable ends onto the vessel deck marked the beginning of a complex jointing operation, spanning two to three days. Given the shallow, tidal environment and the use of a cable lay barge, the challenge was significant.
To address this, detailed analyses were conducted across multiple water depths, lay angles, and laybacks. These analyses produced comprehensive lay tables, granting the offshore operations team the flexibility to adapt to dynamic environmental conditions. The tidal nature of the site required the vessel to continuously adjust its position, moving forward and aft, to maintain the appropriate cable layback throughout the process.
Transient modeling of the Omega Bight overboarding operation provided critical insight into the dynamic forces involved. This modeling identified key moments necessitating optimization to ensure the repair activities were executed with maximum safety and efficiency.
Supporting the operation, clear schematics and lay tables delineated vessel standoff, cable layback and other essential parameters, forming an integral component of the method statement. These detailed documents enabled the offshore team to conduct the repair with confidence and precision.
Further, all critical components—including the joint, bend stiffeners, spreader bar and rigging were modeled meticulously. This detailed approach delivered accurate load data, facilitating the design and preparation of each element to uphold safety and operational effectiveness.
